Sassi Holford 2012 collection: aka lots of lovely

How elegant and just plain beautiful are these latest creations from Sassi Holford? Described as ‘classic English wedding dresses with a contemporary twist’. Well that sounds pretty bang on to me.

Lovely lace sleeves…

Look at the pretty back detailing and bow…

Hello princess…

Never has being covered up been so damn gorgeous…

I definitely wouldn’t be an elegant enough bride to carry off these looks but a girl can dream right?

Arrow wedding decoration

Maybe it’s all the leftover Valentine’s lovin’ in the air but I’m liking  arrows a lot for wedding decoration at the moment. Good for jewellery, and DIY stationery they just make me think of cupid, and I like the nod to the Navajo style as well.

House of Harlow arrow necklace, arrow headband, DIY heart skewer,

arrow signs, mini pastel arrows, arrow place cards

Finding an idea like this is great for those that want some ‘theme’ to their wedding styling without it looking overdone. If there’s something you like, such as arrows for instance, you can incorporate it in little touches without everyone commenting on the ‘arrow’ wedding they went to.

Chinese inspired Jenny Packham London wedding

Introducing the photography of Clair Estelle

I get many many emails from wedding suppliers as you can imagine and it’s always exciting when one of them piques my interest! Clair’s was one such email. I really like the clean bright feel to her images and thought showcasing one of her recent weddings and asking her some quick questions would be a good way for you to see what she can do.

This gorgeous wedding is of Lin & David and was at the Dulwich Picture Gallery .Their inspiration was a mix of Chinese imagery and soft blush pinks and lavenders.  And yes you eagle eyed wedding dress pros, that is a beautiful Jenny Packham number Lin is wearing…

How did you become a wedding photographer?
I became a wedding photographer after taking photos for many years. I decided to leave my graphic design career to take photos of people in love for a job. I like the shapes, colours and innocent emotions
captured in photographing people. I adopt the point of view that each photo I take of a couple is an artwork. A stand alone piece of art full of emotion, beauty interest and intrigue.

I also became a wedding photographer because I’m a great story teller and I love telling stories through my pictures :) I come from a family full of story tellers – we all love to have a go! I find great fascination and satisfaction with getting to know and understand the special relationships between people, this is magic stuff, hence why I love to get to know my couples as much as possible before the big day, to hear their story.

What 5 words best describe your wedding photography style?

Graphically considered, documentary, emotive, honest, creative, colourful

Who, or what inspires you?

Many people and things inspire me and this list of inspiration changes all the time. I seek forms of emotional energy, freshness and comfort – that is when I become most inspired. I love being surrounded by love – that inspires me. Things that strike am emotional response inspire me – such as the rolling waves at the beach, music, Japanese art and design, gorgeous books and yoghurt ice cream.

And finally, why should couples book you?!

Because I try my very best to understand what means the most to them about their day and I will create photos from that feeling. The photo series I present to my couples is a crafted artwork from their special day – capturing all the events and movements in a beautiful way.

Big thanks to Clair for being on the blog today. I do enjoy discovering new photography talent. Now go check out her other weddings!

Wedding decoration from the UK, hurrah!

As a wedding stylist a lot of what my job involves is looking for cool, cute, pretty, quirky etc wedding decorations. Trouble is most of the best stuff is US based, and even if the companies ship to the UK, it’s expensive and a hassle for UK brides.

Which is why I love sites like pipii. Here’s my selection of some of the wedding decoration ideas I found and kind of like.

from top left:

pink tissue fans, milk bottles, aqua stripy straws, LOVE tape, heart balloons, kraft box with heart

Now we just need lots more cool sites like this and Britain will finally start catching up with the US in terms of the kind of wedding decoration available for brides to be. Which will make me do a little victory dance. Yippee.

Floral garden wedding delight

I don’t usually post ‘real weddings’ I haven’t been involved in but when I stumbled across this gorgeous garden wedding I just knew it had to be shared.

The  wedding of Mary & Lewis was captured by their friend and Melbourne based photographer Bec Johnson.

It was the dress that caught my eye at first, but the whole wedding is unpretentious and heartfelt and shot with a really timeless feel.

Lovely eh? And isn’t Mary ridiculously gorgeous?

Big thanks to Bec for letting me share this today, hope you enjoyed!

Get your vintage on at the Miss Vintage Wedding Fair

Wedding fairs are a bit of a nightmare for many women. They’re stressful, overwhelming and just don’t really appeal. If you tend to feel like that, you might want to check out the …

Glenmore House, 6 The Crescent, Surbiton, Surrey, KT6 4BN

11am – 4.30pm

Firstly it’s free for brides! Hurrah, no crazy entrance fee. And it’s only £1 for friends of brides.

Set up by Amelia Barnes who had herself a proper vintage wedding (and struggled finding the right bits and bobs so style her day). So she’s bringing it all in one place for you the quirkier bride to be.

There’s lots of different suppliers for you to chat to AND Charlotte from Restoration Cake is supplying cakes for the pop up tea room. To be honest, that’s reason enough to go. That women is a genius with a cake tin.

Wedding fairs aren’t for everybody and to be honest, even I don’t go to that many. Partly because there’s too much going on and you don’t really get the chance or time to speak to suppliers easily.

I’ve got a feeling this wedding fair is going to be different. If you do make it along, come and say hi. I’ll be the pregnant one eating a lot of cake and drinking a lot of tea!

For more details check out the blog here.

Tobi Hannah: short and flirty wedding dresses

Youthquake – Spring 2012 collection as ‘inspired by the youth of the mid to late 1960’s and their sense of assurance, serene beyond all years’ apparently.

I love the flirty feel to them, perfect for a fun, urban wedding. And the bow hair is pretty cool too.

Buying an antique engagement ring

Edwardian engagement ring via The Antique Jewellery Company

Now I don’t profess to be an expert on engagement rings. I’m not married myself and it’s an area my couples tend to take care of themselves.

But for those not into their modern bling, it’s all about vintage and antique engagement rings, so I’ve done some research on how to buy an antique engagement ring and if you’re a bloke doing this all by yourself (firstly, aren’t you brave/crazy?), you might want to take notes.

Why an antique engagement ring then?

The history, the romance, the quality – need I say more? If you don’t have a grandmother to pass on her engagement ring, what better way to feel you’re imbibing the past than with an antique ring. Not for everybody sure, but to most girls the sheer romance of an antique engagement ring is enough to win them over.

Plus, they tend to be more unique. Like everything vintage, there’s a lot less chance of your best friend choosing the same one when she gets engaged.

Why else would you go antique?

More ethical. There’s no dodgy mining involved in diamonds (who wants a blood diamond on their finger forever?), mined before 1880 at least, and of course technically they’re recycled, which is always more ethical.

More affordable. You can find vintage engagement rings from around £500 and upwards. And seeing as we all know you’re supposed to spend a months wage fellas, that ain’t bad.

So how do you go about actually buying an antique engagement ring?

Make sure you do your research and buy from a reputable dealer/company. Although online stores like Etsy have hundreds of vintage engagement rings, you want to make sure you know what you’re buying (and the seller knows what they’re selling).

Ask what carat the gold is and the size and clarity of the stones plus whether the ring has been restored.

Check out The Antique Jewellery Company for more.

What do you think? Would you/did you go old school for your engagement ring?
